Hello, I am Nicole
And I am the creator and principal consultant of NEL Career Services. Welcome to the space where it gets a bit more personal than “just business” and where I share a bit more about myself.
Many years ago, somebody told me that nobody wakes up and decides to be a headhunter. Back then, it rang true for me. Growing up, I had no idea what a headhunter was. I never heard the word. Not even in a movie. Looking back, I have to smile. It’s because I see a girl that was rather shy and quiet but with a keen interest in what “the adults were talking about. “In my family, it was mostly politics and business. It sparked something in me. But instead of joining a political party (my mother’s wish) or studying business administration (my father’s wish), I studied languages. More precisely, communication, communication models, and how to use communication efficiently. In hindsight, a great asset for my later career.
From Business Consulting To Headhunting
And then there was the day when I noticed that studying languages wasn’t enough. Sure, it was great, and I loved it. But I knew I had to learn about business, too. So I saved some money and spent it on education myself besides my regular curriculum. A short time later, I started my first job at a business consulting company. Here my knowledge about communication came in handy. The company was specialized in consulting and training sales teams, and sales is pretty much about – communication. And knowing people. Something which has always come to me naturally.
I stayed in business consulting for five years before realizing that I was at the end of my learning curve. Looking for a new job, I came across an HR Manager role. In hindsight, another stepping stone to what I am doing today. In this role, I learned everything about HR administration until I realized that I wanted to specialize in HR. A short time later, I found my first headhunting job. More than 15 years later, I am still working as a headhunter. I still love it. Though, to be honest, I am not much a fan of the term.
What Inspires Me
I started my career as a consultant, and I still am a consultant. The so-called headhunting is more than “just filling an executive role.” Headhunting – or better executive recruiting – is about bringing the right people together so that they can create something greater. And I love to see when “people click. “When there is this spark when client and candidate alike realize “Yes, we can do something together. “If it’s driving change for an organization, launching a new product, expanding to a new market, or optimizing business processes. It’s equally fascinating because I love progress. I want to see people and organizations thrive. I want to see YOUR organization thrive. And If I can support you by bringing you the right people – great!
The second point of inspiration is that we live in exciting times, which I don’t want to miss. Not least because of Covid-19, working life has changed a lot. I have been working “remotely” for over ten years, and I know that it works. And more importantly, it works well. But this is just the beginning. Far more significant changes are still ahead of us through new technologies. We will see how this develops in the next few years. Indeed, they will turn working life as we know it upside down. But that can also be a good thing. Let’s wait and see. By the way, I’m always open to discussing these topics more intensively. So if you like, feel free to send me an email. Even wholly apart from a concrete recruiting assignment. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
